Immersed In Music’s Monday Young Rockers band, SNAGLJK, has been working together so well that they have already started practicing their second song, “In My Blood,” by Shawn Mendes.
Aidan, Sonia and Kaden, veterans from last year’s Young Rockers program and this past summer’s week long camp, led the rest of the group in putting together Daya’s “Sit Still, Look Pretty.” Joe, who has been taking piano lessons for several years, decided he wanted to try guitar on the Daya song. Lia and Kaden split keyboard responsibilities, with Kaden kicking off the song with a solo. Grace and Nora are rocking the vocals, and Aidan and Sonia are holding the bottom end on drums and bass.
As they start learning the Mendes song, the hard work they put into their first song is really paying off. They are showing that they can listen to each other, even as they are learning their parts on different instruments.
One of the most popular parts of the Young Rockers program is the fact that students get to try their hand at vocals or guitar on one song, then play drums, keys or bass on the next one. Trying out different instruments gives every student the chance to decide which one appeals to them the most. Then, by the time they have spent a year or two at this level, they are usually ready to concentrate on the one that is the most fun for them.
